During my research on this topic, I realized that there are a few cases that I stumbled on in the past that reflects and, in a way, inspired me to choose this topic. In this post, I will talk on the first case :

This research task is in a form of a survey. I prepared a few questions for me to know whether the youths in Malaysia recognizes the Malaysian Folklore Icons or do they recognizes other characters more. I also asked their opinions in why the youths nowadays are no longer exposed to folklore. There were 80 responses gathered. Here you can check the results, statistics I gathered from the survey : Gender - Female : 43                Male     : 37 Age      - 13-17 years old : 11 people            - 18-21 years old : 55 people              - 22-25 years old : 14 people Do you know any Malaysian Folklore characters? - Yes     : 61 people - No      : 5 people - Maybe : 14 people  Do you think you'd know the tales of Hang...

Chapter 2.5 : Consultations

Last week, I consulted three other lecturers on this topic and these are the feedback and suggestion given by them : Lecturer 1 He mentions that the research tasks were good and suggested on checking the Singapore & Indonesian Archives as the Tales of Hang Tuah are there as well. He also asked me to consider which chapter of the tale to focus on and find ways and references to gamify the scenes.  Lecturer 2 He mentions that I need to record my interviews, the least is to take pictures as proof . He also suggests to expand my research area by adding in User Personas and try to gain information based on the target audience's patterns and behaviors, their lifestyles and interaction with digital media in their daily lives . Once I gather these information I then can get a glimpse on which media to choose to present for my final project. Lecturer 3  He read through the research tasks that I sent to him and asked me these questions :  What is t...

Chapter 2 : Visual Map

Image
This is the Visual Map that is prepared to give a clearer view of my ideas to people. 5 Similar Things I found 5 game installation projects that were in a way similar with the idea of my final project. I wanted to explore different methods to play games beyond the screen. One of the keyword that used to search these installations is called "Project Mapping". These are some of the artifacts that I find useful as references. VISUATARI : An installation created for an event called Escaparte , a gathering of artists who specialize in art and technology that took place in Bogotá. The projection surface is just a simple white table with a Nintendo console positioned in the middle of it. Classic video games such as Super Mario, Pac Man , and Duck Hunt transform the surface into a 3D game world, creating the illusion that the games are literally spilling out of the game cartridge and into our physical world.   SPACER : An interactive installation project t...

Chapter 1.8 : Research Tasks

Research Tasks are needed in order for me to confirm on my issue whether it is a serious one or not. The first few tasks that I prepared to do is : 1) To prepare a survey and aim to at least 40-50 responses 2) To research in a few bookstores and check out if there's anymore books that       are related to the Malaysian folklore. 3) To have a casual conversation with my tuition students and my little     brother's friends and ask them on Hang Tuah. 4) To check if the school's Malay literature tells the Malaysian folklore or not. Results will be posted in the next post.
