Chapter 2.5 : Research Results Part 2
This posts continues the research tasks that I have done.
3) Check out any TV channels that show contents about Malaysian Folklore.
During the weekends, I wanted to check out if there's any TV channels that shows any content on the Malaysian Folklore. So far there are a few channels that may show movies containing the said topic :
1) Astro Prima - The channel broadcasts classic movies every Wednesday and Saturday.
This ranges from P.Ramlee's famous Bujang Lapok to Hang Tuah.
2) RTM1/RTM2 - Both of the channels broadcasts classic movies every Sunday and Monday
night.
Most of the channels broadcasts more western movies or TV series. Even on local cable network such as RTM1, RTM2, TV3, TV9 or NTV7, they would broadcasts dramas and would show Western/Japanese cartoon shows or local cartoon that adapts western culture to attract younger audiences such as Crayon Shin Chan, Doraemon, Boboiboy or Naruto,
The only cartoon show that depicts the Malaysian Folklore as cameos is Upin-Ipin but it is only shown only once or twice. The cartoon show acts as a way to promote Malaysian culture through animation.
4) Literature books in schools
I contacted my old school's Malay subject teacher, asking her about the genre of the literature book for this year's SPM/PMR students. She mentioned that most of the novels/literature books focuses on Romance/Drama/Fantasy genres. The only novel that touches the Malaysian history is Pahlawan Pasir Salak in 2011 or Darah Titik Di Semantan.
