Chapter 5.9 : Facing a problem in Unity? Here are a few things I did.
In this post, I just wanted to share a few experiences I had throughout doing my project. As I mentioned before, I wasn't really good in scripting. Therefore I had to counter this weakness of mine with a few methods.
YOUTUBE TUTORIALS
First thing what I would do was that I would check out Youtube tutorials from specific experts to help me get started with my project.
Here are a few Youtubers I suggest to follow if you are interested in developing a 2D games. There are bunch of other Youtubers that gives out tutorials. Its just the matter of choosing the rights.
Youtube tutorials would often give me a really basic setup to the scripts. Often they would give out their coding scripts but you will either need to pay their Patreon accounts or request them through email. In my case I would follow their tutorials as I want to understand further in programming for my future references.
ASK PEOPLE AROUND
When I had a problem with the Fungus plugin, I would check their online manual to see how each of the things work. Often they would not explain things that you want to make. Therefore they made a forum just for us to communicate with other Fungus users.
Here are a few question that I asked and received feedbacks :
Honestly the people online are really nice to communicate with :D. Don't be scared or shy to ask them. You can get to connect to people and solve your problem at the same time.
But don't expect them to reply you on the spot. Sometimes they reply you really late or dont reply you at all.
Here's one of my experience :
Don't rely only on their response. Scripting requires us to try out so many times. It is from there that I got the hang of programming, not repeating the same mistakes and understanding the logic behind it :).
I also strongly suggest to consult your lecturer if you face a problem. I didn't because I wanted to experience this by myself and would love to try and challenge myself to overcome the problems that I faced. It's a really bad move actually. So don't follow.
To conclude, this experience was really fruitful for me. And to be honest I treated this as a game, where if I don't overcome the obstacles, I may never proceed to the next level. I know it sounds childish but hey it works. Every people have their own style of doing their work right haha.
