Chapter 6.3 : Setting up the booth for Degree Show

A few days left till the Degree show starts.

We had to set up our booths earlier as we need to see whether some changes are need or not. AND IM REALLY GLAD I WENT INTO THE GALLERY EARLIER.

My initial idea was to use iMac to display my game and my online portfolio. The first booth looked something like this :

It looks consistent and I like it. One problem, MY CONTROLLER DOESNT WORK. It turns out that the recent update of iMac won't allow my Logitech to work. I tried multiple ways and it did received the controller however it did not receive the transmitter and thus it didnt work. Luckily for me I discussed with the Head of Department and we sorted things out by giving my iMac to my classmate and I get a PC with Unity in it.

Well that solved a problem right? Well it did, only its adding MORE PROBLEMS.

2nd problem I faced was the presentation. Once my PC arrived and I tested my game, everything works. Then I realized that the CPU is outside and the wires were all scattered. It'll be pretty ugly for audiences to see. I had to think of multiple ways to hide it. Luckily, again, someone from the Graphic Design class wants to trade the white block with her Foldable Display Shelf. The shelf is really huge and it will help me solve this problem too.
I quickly changed with her and now its all good.

You might be thinking everything's over right? NOT ACTUALLY.

My final problem was the arrangement of my place and my individual banner. It turns out to be far from my booth and from the placement it's as if it belongs to my friend on the side there. I had to move all of them to see whether it's close enough with my banner.

People kept asking me, why don't I push my glass cabinet besides the game and put my banner where the glass cabinet is. I don't reject this idea actually, but what I really want is the glass cabinet to be close to the iMac as it displays my online portfolio. That way people would look at it easily. If I were to follow people's advice just now, it would cause a ruckus between those who are playing the game and those who are checking out my portfolio.

I also had to play around with the spotlight to make my work stand out more.

I may sound like I'm exaggerating. But trust me, this small things really do take time to be finished. I'm just grateful that I've finished my game earlier and only need to focus on setting up the booth. Some of my classmates were still building their projects.

So advices for my juniors :

1) Try to finish your project at least 3-4 days before the booth setup.
2) Always go inside your booth place earlier to check on things.
3) Try to plan out your booth. A blueprint is always helpful in this situations.
4) Test out your games so many times so that you can sleep at night with ease.
