Chapter 6.1 : The Promotional Video

For this project, we may require to submit our final artefact (my game) as well as our blog URL and PROMOTIONAL VIDEO. Sorry for the caps. Anyways, in this post I'll share with you the process of creating my promo video.

In one of our classes, we had to discuss with one of our lecturers and demonstrate a storyboard of our promo video. Mine looked something like this :

My idea was to create something like a game trailer for my promo video. I had to watch lots of game trailers just to grab that inspiration. I would include a brief intro to my characters as well as using my whole game and cut them bit by bit just to act as a teaser. I also wanted to use a burning effect in my video for the text.

I would usually use Adobe Premiere Pro to compile videos as it is easier for me to add fade in effects as well as editing and cropping both the video and audio. The effects I mentioned were done in After Effects through a tutorial I found online :

Oh I forgot to mention 1 more thing, normally I would record my gameplay through a software called Overwold. It's a really nice software however it will include its UI in as well, which I don't want. I asked a friend of mine and they suggested on using FRAPS to record. It works however the files are huge. like REALLY HUGE. I just recorded 9 Minutes of my gameplay and the whole video is already 15.1GB.

YES. 15.1GB. Here's the proof if you think I was joking :

So the solution to this is to either bring it to Premiere Pro and export it in a different format or bring it into a media encoder so that ill reduce down the size.

Once my promotional video is done. I thought my work is over, however I realized that I had to post it online because it is a PROMOTIONAL video right. I was really slow to realize this actually. So I posted it up on a few social media of mine. Will be talking bout it in the next post :)
