Chapter 5.8 : Beta Test

In a few weeks before the deadline, we had a Beta Test session to test our projects with a live audience. At this time my game was 75% done as I at that time I was done with the cutscenes and was about to implement Hang Tuah's gameplay into them.

My goal for the Beta Test was to :

1) See whether the language was too difficult or perfect for users to understand.
2) Check the gameplay whether its appropriate for both gamers and non-gamers.

Below are few of the pictures I manage to take when my users were playing the game:

Over 10 users were tested out. A few feedbacks that were taken was :

1) Instructions were needed : Some users weren't used to the controls
2) The game did not restart after it ended : An error occured
3) Fonts were needed to change : Title Screen, Character Selection.
4) Story and Dialogue texts' colors were needed to change : Darker than before
5) Adding Borders for the Cutscenes
6) The Attack button during gameplay : Some people would avoid enemies or also asked
me if they can attack them. Again instructions problem.
7) Gameplay wasn't enough challenging : They requested Enemy respawns

Overall from the Beta Test, I can safely say that compared to Visual Design and Gameplay, Instructions in the game are really important to both gamers and non-gamers. Most of the users didn't mind on the visuals as they gave suggestions to help in making it better. Also I noticed each individual had different views on specific sections as some would say it is good, some says its ok while others would suggest to change it.

However they mentioned that if they did not get to do the actions they needed to do in the game, then it will be really dissapointing and frustrating for them. Hence that's why I see most of them would avoid enemies rather than fighting them.

Once i told them about the attack button, users would often search for enemies to fight rather than to get the key to proceed to the next cutscene. When I suggested enemy respawns into the game, they accepted it and were eager to fight more enemies.

The Beta test is successful as I was able to gather useful information to improve on my game. Feedbacks were positive as the users appreciate my effort in bringing back traditional folktales and turning it into a digital media. I also added a sneak peek at the end of the Beta version of the game just to lure them into going to the exhibition.

And that is all for my Beta Test Report :)
